Cyber Security Compliance Officer
Department: Information Technology
Reporting to: Cyber Security Analyst
Grade: 7
Salary: £47,001
Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
Base: London River House, Gravesend
Closing date: 6 November 2026
Who we are:
We are the UK’s biggest port, central to the country’s economy and ambitions for growth. We connect the UK to the world, but we are much more than a conventional port.
We are driven by our purpose to protect and improve the 95 mile stretch of the River Thames which is tidal – from Teddington Lock on the border of Surrey, through the heart of London, Kent, Essex and out to the North Sea.
The role:
Help us turn cyber security requirements into clear actions and lasting improvements.
We’re looking for an organised, thoughtful person to support cyber security compliance at the Port of London Authority. You’ll work with colleagues across IT, Navigation Systems and the wider business to understand requirements, gather evidence and keep improvement plans on track.
The focus is on governance and coordination - understanding what we need to demonstrate, checking that evidence supports it and following actions through to completion. You’ll work alongside our team to understand requirements, ask questions and identify where further evidence or action is needed.
Your work will help us meet our regulatory obligations and assess our security against the National Cyber Security Centre’s (NCSC) Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF). It’s an opportunity to develop your career in cyber security while supporting essential services on the River Thames.
Key responsibilities:
Work with colleagues to translate cyber security requirements into practical actions and clear evidence.
Gather, organise and review evidence to help demonstrate that security controls are working effectively.
Coordinate improvement plans, monitor deadlines and follow up on outstanding actions.
Keep policies, risk registers and compliance records accurate, current and easy to follow.
Support audits and regulatory assessments by preparing evidence and coordinating responses.
Produce clear progress reports, highlight gaps and help improve how we manage compliance.
What we are looking for:
Experience in compliance, governance, assurance, audit, risk, quality management or a related role.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage priorities and follow actions through.
Clear communication and sound judgement, including the ability to ask questions, assess evidence and challenge constructively.
The ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues across different teams.
An understanding of cyber security concepts and working knowledge of a relevant framework or standard, such as CAF, ISO 27001 or an equivalent.
In return, we offer a competitive benefits package:
28 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays)
Medical Cash Plan (Westfield Health)
Generous pension - up to 14% employer contribution
Employee Assistance Programme and access to Wellbeing Resources
Discounted gym memberships and cycle to work scheme
Salary sacrifice car scheme (Tusker Cars)
Reward and recognition portal, with access to a range of discounts
For further information or if you would like to have an informal discussion about the position, please contact Jack Bowker, Cyber Security Analyst at jack.bowker@pla.co.uk.
